“Find a mentor, a teacher and spend as much time as possible with them. Ask for guidance and advice but also be your own career manager and make your own path in the industry.”

What does a typical day look like for you?

A bit of a mix! If I am creating content, uploading items to the website or browsing for new stock I am working from home or the local cafe. But you can also find me out and about when shopping for new pieces or people-watching looking for inspiration. To do the latter, Bondi Beach is my go-to.

What are you enjoying most about your new role and/or the company you are working for?

I love being my own boss, managing my own hours around my other life commitments but above all, doing work that is both fun and fulfilling. I am very passionate about sustainable fashion and the circular economy so it does not even feel like work!

Tell us about your career journey and how you landed your role.

I studied at Orana College in 2016/2017, Certificate IV in Fashion Business. Back then, I was working full time in another industry and would use every single day off to intern with stylists, fashion shows and events because I wanted to take full advantage of the amazing contacts in the industry that Orana college provides.

I listened, learned and tried to go above and beyond to make a good impression. After graduation, I put my fashion dreams to sleep (for a bit at least!), became a mum and in 2022 after resigning to my old job I decided to take the leap and started to plant the seed that would later become my business. I enjoyed every single step of the journey, even when I was doubting myself!

What are some of your career and study highlights so far?

Career wise, definitely landing my first client was a highlight! From my Orana days, interning during Vogue Fashion Night Out was absolutely inspiring alongside David Jones fashion shows. The adrenaline is insane but it keeps you going through the challenges of being backstage and having to dress a model in literally seconds!

Do you have any advice or tips for our current and future students looking to pursue a similar career?

Find a mentor, a teacher and spend as much time as possible with them. Ask for guidance and advice but also be your own career manager and make your own path in the industry. We are at a time in history where a lot is changing and the possibilities to create new ways in the industry are endless.

Recalling on your time at Orana, what was it like being a fashion student?

Orana is not your average college! Staff and teachers at Orana will foster creativity and collaboration, and you get to spend time with students with other interests and skills which I think is the best part. I always enjoyed the hands-on approach, from sewing to flower arrangement, you will be surprised at what you can achieve!
